A By-Law to authorise the raising of the sum of ten pounds for the Relief of the Indigent Sick and Infirm Persons in the Township of Orford. (Passed 8th February, 1847.)

Whereas it is necessary to make provision for the aid and support of the indigent sick and infirm of the said township of Orford; and whereas, the majority of the said inhabitants of the said township, duly qualified according to the Statute in such case made and provided, have by petition to the District Council applied for the imposition of a rate to raise the sum of ten pounds currency for the purpose aforesaid.

Be it enacted by the District Council of the Western District in Council assembled, by virtue of and under the authority of an Act of the Province of Canada, entitled ‘An Act for the better internal government of that part of this Province which formerly constituted the Province of Upper Canada, by the establishment of local or Municipal Authorities therein;’ amended by an Act passed in the Ninth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Victoria, entitled, ‘An Act to Amend the laws relative to District Councils in Upper Canada.’

I.  That the sum of ten pounds be levied, raised, and collected by assessment on the taxable chattel property in the said township of Orford, and that the said rate be forthwith placed on the Collector’s Roll, and be collected by that officer.

II.  And be it further enacted, that as soon as the said monies shall have been collected under the said rate, they shall, by that officer, be paid over to the Township Wardens of the said Township of Orford, to be by them applied for the purposes of this By-Law intended, and for no other; and that this By-Law continue in force for one year.
