— A small post village in the township of Orford, situated on the Talbot Road leading from Morpeth to St. Thomas, distant from the former place 11 miles, and 30 miles from the latter. It contains 1 hotel and 2 stores. Mails daily. Population 50.

— A post village in the Township of Oxford [sic], distant from St. Thomas 31 miles, from Bothwell station, off G.W.R., 11 miles, and from Chatham, the County Town, 30 miles. It contains 2 churches, 4 stores, 2 hotels, 2 blacksmith’s shops and a harness shop. Mails daily. Population 200.

The foundry and agricultural implement manufactory of A. Tait is advantageously located in the midst of a fertile district, and gives employment to 6 hands. The steam, saw and flouring mills of Mr. Cunningham are large frame buildings, where two million feet of timber is cut annually, and merchant flouring and custom grinding always attended to.

— A post office situated on lot 6 in the 6th concession of the township of Orford. The post office was established in 1865. Mr. A. Atkinson was appointed the first post master and retains that office up to the present time. There are two churches in the vicinity, a good school house and a temperance society. Mails semi-weekly. Population, 50.
